Dr. Kenneth Funk

Jesus Christ has always been my first priority since my initial commitment to Him July 2, 1957 at the Billy Graham Crusade in Madison Square Garden. My family has been second. My ministry for Him has been third always being very active in local church work and an active witness at work and in the community. My 28-year career as a process development chemist and associate research fellow in the Volwiler Society at Abbott Laboratories was my fourth priority.

Education:

I attended Moody Bible Institute, and graduated from Houghton College as a chemistry major, zoology minor. My master’s and doctorate degrees, from Case-Western Reserve University, were earned in organic chemistry, specializing in amino acid and peptide chemistry in the laboratory of world-renowned Professor Miklos Bodanzsky.

Career:

My main process development activities included leading a section of chemists developing a process for and manufacturing Lupron, TAP Pharmaceutical's billion-dollar nonapeptide drug for the treatment of prostate cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, precocious puberty and in-vitro fertilization. During that time I had twelve publications, three patents, nine patent disclosures and a book chapter.

Post-career:

I have been retired since 2002, but am currently involved in ministry as an MCF board member and Director of MCF-North. I have also served in various other church leadership ministries and in community service through the years. Currently, I am the Chairman of the Lindenhurst Lakes Commission.

Military Service:

I was a Naval Officer stationed at Great Lakes during Viet Nam.

Family:

I am most blessed by the Lord with Connie as my wife, and a daughter, Debbie. She and husband Joe are the parents of our two grandchildren, Drew and Lauren.

Hobbies

I have numerous hobbies including traveling, fishing, model railroading, photography, and computing.
